Overview of The Zadok Priesthood by Rav Sha'ul. Before we investigate the heritage of The Messiah and his lineage coming from The House of Zadok (the High Priest to King David) we must first have a basic knowledge of the priesthood that was established in Zadok. AARONITES AND ZADOKITES does not mean that Yahwism entirely disappeared from Israel. It ceased simply to be the state cult, but still continued in the land (cf. I Kings ). Intolerance in religion was not a characteristic of ancient peoples, and was only introduced into Israel by the later.

A series of important changes overtook the Jewish high priesthood in the early Seleucid period. Zadokites in the family line of Joshua the son of Jehozadak had passed the office along in hereditary fashion for about years before Menelaus, a person with different family connections (2 Mace ), usurped the office in B.C.E. The priests were known as Levites, Aaronites, Zadokites and Essenes at various times, and many of them became Christians in the New Testament period. One line of the Aaronic priesthood continued through the Middle Ages by lineage of Robert Bruce, king of Scotland, and through one branch of his family known as Glendowyn, brought to America by. Either Zadok himself or his grandson was the ruler of the Aaronites (I Chron. xxvii. 17), and Jerusha, the mother of Jotham, is apparently termed the daughter of Zadok to emphasize her noble lineage, since her father may have been a descendant of the first Zadok (II Kings xv. 33; II Chron. xxvii. 1).

Aaron (/ ˈ ær ən / or / ˈ ɛər ən /; Hebrew: אַהֲרֹן) is a prophet, high priest, and the brother of Moses in the Abrahamic religions (elder brother in the case of Judaism).. Knowledge of Aaron, along with his brother Moses, comes exclusively from religious texts, such as the Bible and Qur’ Hebrew Bible relates that, unlike Moses, who grew up in the Egyptian royal court.
